“Oh, there’s another used book store…it’s in the next town over” she says, “it’s open until 4.30 today, let’s go there next.” If like me you’re thinking, hmm…next town over…so, that’s about 15 minutes away, you can imagine my chagrin to find that the GPS has the ‘next town over’ as a fifty-six minute trip, and it’s now 3.30pm. Such was the start of my journey to the Colebrook Book Barn, a whistle-stop drive that ended up being more whistle than stop the way my friend Barbara drives but, we made it just in time. The barn itself is 200 years old, nestled in a clearing surrounded by a grove of trees. A really beautiful spot. Barbara found a signed Anya Seton together with an illustrated edition of The Secret Garden signed by the illustrator, Tasha Tudor and all books are currently 50% off. There be treasures in this barn for sure.
They have another store in nearby Winstead and the owner has plans to auction off the contents of the Book Barn, renovate and restock.
