What a find! The Shire Book Shop is everything you could hope for in a used bookstore.  There are comfortable sofas and armchairs, a selection of complimentary teas – help yourself – and of course, shelves upon shelves of excellent books.  The shop occupies the first floor of an old mill building with gloriously high ceilings and tall windows.  The owners will happily give you an introductory tour but if you don’t want to bother them there’s a handy floorplan on display to point you to your favorite sections, which is just as well because they have over 6000 sq ft of space! Prices are very reasonable, all the books had 20% off when I visited and their inventory is diverse with many unique items I have not seen elsewhere.  The Shire is a wonderful place to spend an hour or two.  They are open every day except Mondays and there is plenty of free parking.
